ADM1070 Hot Swap Controller
This document describes the operation of the ADM1070 under various hot swap insertion and removal conditions. This document should be consulted in conjunction with the ADM1070 data sheet and evaluation board documentation. All of the tests described in this document can be recreated with the ADM1070 evaluation board.

LM5068 - Negative Voltage Hot Swap Controller
The LM5068 hot-swap controller provides intelligent control of power supply connections during the insertion and removal of circuit cards powered by live system backplanes. The LM5068 provides both in-rush current control and short-circuit protection functions, and limits power supply transients in the backplane caused by the insertion of additional circuit cards.
Features
- Programmable under-voltage/over-voltage shutdown protection with adjustable hysteresis
- Available in both latched fault and automatic re-try versions
- Available with either active HIGH or active LOW power good flag
- Programmable multi-function timer for board insertion de-bounce delay
- Fault timer avoids nuisance trips caused by short duration load transients
- Safe module insertion and removal from live backplanes
- In-rush current limiting for safe board insertion into live backplanes
- Fast response to over-current fault conditions with active current limiting
- -10V to -90V input range
- Active gate clamping during initial power application
Applications
- Distributed Power Systems
- Negative Power Supply Control
- Electronic Circuit Breaker
- - 48V Power Modules
- Central Office Switching
- PBX Systems

LM5069 - Positive High Voltage Hot Swap / Inrush Current Controller with Power Limiting
The LM5069 positive hot swap controller provides intelligent control of the power supply connections during insertion and removal of circuit cards from a live system backplane or other "hot" power sources. The LM5069 provides in-rush current control to limit system voltage droop and transients. The current limit and power dissipation in the external series pass N-Channel MOSFET are programmable, ensuring operation within the Safe Operating Area (SOA). The POWER GOOD output indicates when the output voltage is within 1.25V of the input voltage. The input under-voltage and over-voltage lockout levels and hysteresis are programmable, as well as the initial insertion delay time and fault detection time. The LM5069-1 latches off after a fault detection, while the LM5069-2 automatically restarts at a fixed duty cycle. The LM5069 is available in a 10 pin MSOP package.

2 A, High-Side P-Channel Switch with Current Limit and Thermal Shutdown
The ADM869L is a logic controlled P-channel switch with low on resistance, capable of sourcing up to 2 A from supply voltages between 2.7 V and 5.5 V. A user-settable current limit allows the trip current to be set between 400 mA and 2 A with an accuracy of ± 21%. This allows the system power supply to be protected against short circuits and surge currents in peripheral loads powered via the ADM869L. The ADM869L also offers low quiescent current of typically 12 µA and shutdown current of typically 10 nA.
Features
- User-Settable Current Limit
- 45 mΩ On Resistance
- Short-Circuit Protection
- 2 A Load Current
- Thermal Shutdown
- FAULT Output
- 12 µA Typical Quiescent Current
- 10 nA Typical Shutdown Current
- 40 nA Typical Switch Off Leakage
- Small, 16-Lead QSOP Package
