LMV431/LMV431A/LMV431B Low-Voltage (1.24V) Adjustable Precision Shunt Regulators
The LMV431, LMV431A and LMV431B are precision 1.24V shunt regulators capable of adjustment to 30V. Negative feedback from the cathode to the adjust pin controls the cathode voltage, much like a non-inverting op amp configuration. A two resistor voltage divider terminated at the adjust pin controls the gain of a 1.24V band-gap reference. Shorting the cathode to the adjust pin (voltage follower) provides a cathode voltage of a 1.24V.

Using the MAX8515 Shunt Regulator In Output Overvoltage Sensing Applications for DC-DC Converters
Output overvoltage protection is a critical feature for DC/DC converters in order to protect sensitive loads from permanent damage. The basic requirements for an overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit are precise sensing of the output voltage condition and fast activation of the shutdown circuit. The MAX8515 shunt regulators are excellent candidates for implementing this function in DC/DC converters.

LM431 Adjustable Precision Zener Shunt Regulator
The LM431 is a 3-terminal adjustable shunt regulator with guaranteed temperature stability over the entire temperature range of operation. It is now available in a chip sized package (4-Bump micro SMD) using National’s micro SMD package technology. The output voltage may be set at any level greater than 2.5V (Vref) up to 36V merely by selecting two external resistors that act as a voltage divided network. Due to the sharp turn-on characteristics this device is an excellent replacement for many zener diode applications.

LM336Z5, LM336BZ5 Programmable Shunt Regulator
The LM336Z5 and LM336BZ5 integrated circuits are precision 5.0V shunt regulators. The monolithic IC voltage reference operates as a low temperature coefficient 5.0V zener with 0.6Ω dynamic impedance. A third terminal on the LM336Z5 and LM336BZ5 allows the reference voltage and temperature coefficient to be trimmed easily.
The LM336Z5 and LM336BZ5 are useful as precision 5.0V low voltage references which makes it convenient to obtain a stable reference from low voltage supplies. Further, since the LM336Z5 and LM336BZ5 operate as shunt regulators, they can be used as either a positive or negative voltage reference.
